Lenka Chaloupková je doktorandka katedry Sinologie, od února 2023 zde působí jako vyučující. Podílela se na výzkumném projektu KREAS.

Her current research stems from my long-term desire to understand the process of intercultural communication as it manifested itself in the sphere of the intermingling of Chinese and Western music in the 20th century. It mainly focuses on the public understanding of Western music in Republican China, and how it influenced both composers and emerging musicologists. She is especially interested in the institutions and publications involved in the promotion and teaching of modern music, in the rediscovery of traditional genres, and the interactions between Western and Chinese musicians and intellectuals. She studies these aspects using musical analysis and primary sources (including recordings, sheet music, biographies, diaries and journal articles). In the past,She has also worked on the composer Xian Xinghai, and on the genre of School songs. Her dissertation maps the reception of Claude Debussy in the Chinese environment in the context of the emergence of Chinese New Music. She tries to show, that Jaroslav Průšek’s understanding of the process of modernization emphasizing the continuity of tradition in shaping Chinese modernity is applicable not only in literary theory but also in the sphere of musical composition.
