Title: Constructing “One China”: History, Ideology, and Sovereignty Across the Taiwan Strait
Place: Celetná 20, room 247
Time: Thursday, February 26, 17:30-19:00
“One China” is an ambiguous and malleable political formula that freezes outdated sovereignty claims from the civil war and imperial eras, increasingly disconnected from contemporary political realities across the Taiwan Strait. By projecting an imagined unity onto two separate governments, it superimposes an abstract historical narrative that obscures very real present divisions of political authority, identity, and aspiration.
Lecture is held as the first talk in the series “Cross-Strait Relations in Context: Perspectives on the Relationship Between Taiwan and China“, organised by Global Taiwan Chair, department of Chinese Studies.
Everybody is warmly welcome to share the information and to attend the event!
